About Michelle Root, AMFT

Therapy for Anxiety, Perinatal & Postpartum Mental Health, and Eating Disorders

Hi, I’m Michelle Root. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist offering warm, collaborative therapy for adults and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, body image concerns, identity stress, and major life transitions.

My clinical background includes extensive experience in higher levels of care, where I provided individual, group, couples, and family therapy for eating disorders, emotional dysregulation, and co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders. That work shaped my grounded, practical approach and deep respect for the resilience clients bring into the room.

As a mother, I have a strong commitment to perinatal and postpartum mental health. I understand the emotional complexity of pregnancy, the transition into parenthood, and the quiet overwhelm that can surface during these seasons. My goal is to create a space where clients feel seen, understood, and supported through every part of the reproductive and postpartum journey.

My style is warm, steady, and collaborative. I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients understand patterns, build emotional regulation skills, and develop compassionate insight into their inner world.

I offer virtual therapy to clients across California and provide care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and grounded in real-life practicality. I accept private pay and Medi-Cal (LA Care and Gold Coast Health Plan).

Let’s work together.
